Since 2014, the EERA Joint Programme on Wind Energy (JP WIND) has been organising yearly events.
The EERA JP Wind & SETWind Annual Event aims for knowledge exchange, network opportunities and inspiration for new research topics. It is intended to focus on R&I priorities and technology development visions.
The 6th Annual Event will be organised by EERA JP Wind & SETWind in Amsterdam on the 24th and 25th September 2019. It includes a networking dinner on Tuesday 24th.
The participation for the EERA JP Wind & SETWind Annual Event is open for EERA JP Wind members as well as industry collaborators. Registration is compulsory for this free event.
The sessions are focussed on the following topics:
- R&I priorities, technology developments and visions
- Discussion on creation of European Lighthouse projects
- Developments in the SET-Plan calling for international R&I alignment
- Creation of multi-national R&I initiatives
- Wind Energy System Integration – Vision and R&I priorities
- European-wide initiatives for large-scale infrastructure

The EERA JPWind & SETWind Annual Event aims to facilitate knowledge exchange, network opportunities and inspiration for new research topics. It is intended to focus on R&I priorities and technology development visions.
EERA JPWind calls for abstracts with “Research priorities” and “Technology development vision”. Oral presentations by the contributors are will be selected. Optionally, papers may be written that are published in conference proceedings available online.
The important topics in the Annual event are:

- Discussion on creation of European Lighthouse projects
- Developments in the SET-Plan calling for international R&I alignment
- Creation of multi-national R&I initiatives
- Wind Energy System Integration – Vision and R&I priorities

BACKGROUND
Wind farm control is an active and growing field of research in which the control actions of individual turbines at a farm are coordinated, accounting for inter-turbine aerodynamic interaction, to improve the overall performance of the wind farm. Performance goals can include power production, turbine load reduction and grid support services. In this TEM we seek to overview the state of the art of this field, identify consensus research findings, data sets and best practices, overview current research challenges, and establish a road map on how to address these challenges.
OBJECTIVES
- State of the industry – Current capabilities in wind farm control
- State of the research – Overview of research findings including theoretical results, overview of models and capabilities, and results of analysis from high-fidelity computer simulations, wind tunnel studies and field trials.
- Consensus research findings and best practices – Establish where there is consensus and where there are open questions in the research. Establish preferred nomenclature and best practices for conducting new research
- Identification of research needs – Based on existing research and desired end goals, identify where research is needed
- Road map – Establish plan for researching and implementing wind farm controls as industry standard practice
TENTATIVE PROGRAM
A few overview presentations will be followed by discrete break-out sessions to address the above points. A final full group session will collect the main points and identify follow-up responsibilities.
