EERA JP Wind SP4 announce the workshop ‘Blade Erosion from the perspective of loads, controls and aerodynamics’.

In this workshop, the most recent advances and the technological challenges in the field of Wind Turbines Aerodynamics, Loads and Controls will be analyzed applied to wind turbine blade erosion.

Wind turbine blade erosion is one of the main concerns of wind turbine manufactures, wind turbine owners and research community. The operation and maintenance costs derived from costly repairs of eroded blades are one of the major issues especially in offshore wind farms. Furthermore, blade erosion is influenced by many physical phenomena that need deeper understanding and detailed modelling.

In this online workshop, the SP4 topics, aerodynamics, loads and control will be addressed from the blade erosion perspective. Aerodynamics: Blade design shape is affected by erosion which leads to a direct impact over airfoil aerodynamics, deeper understanding of how power production is reduced depending of the blade erosion class is still needed. Mitigation methods, wind tunnel tests and prediction tools need to be developed and improved. Control: Erosion safe operation modes are defined to modify wind turbine behavior during the most harmful meteorological conditions. Loads: since aerodynamics and controls are altered from the standard design conditions, blade loads will also be influenced in the eroded blades.

The workshop will be divided in three technical sessions Aerodynamics, Loads and Control for the erosion perspective. Abstracts on current research, technological challenges and future research lines will be accepted.

Note: it will be organized online 1 day-workshop (09:00 to 15:00). The extension of the sessions will be tailored depending on the number of presentations we will receive.
